What is Tigecycline? Tigecycline is used to treat some severe bacterial infections when other antibiotics may not be effective. It is related to the class of medications known as tetracycline antibiotics. It works by preventing bacterial development. Purpose: Injections of tigecycline are used to treat a number of dangerous infections, such as pneumonia (a lung infection that developed in a person who was not admitted), skin infections, and abdominal infections. The drug tigecycline injection belongs to the group of drugs known as tetracycline antibiotics. It helps to prevent bacterial infections. Available Dosage: 50mg injection When to use? Lung Infections Skin infections Abdominal infections Dosage: Injected into a vein, initially 100mg then 50mg every 12 hours for 5-14 days. Administration: A medical expert gives this medication by injecting it into a vein over the duration of 30 to 60 minutes. Metabolism: Hepatic Half-life elimination: Single dose 27 hrs.
