Description

Sesame, often called the “Queen of Oilseeds”, is one of the world’s most valuable oilseed crops, known for its superior oil quality and rich protein content. Cultivated in over 70 countries, it thrives in hot, dry climates.
In Pakistan, sesame is grown in about 65 districts across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan under both irrigated and rain-fed conditions. The seeds contain 50–58% oil and up to 22% protein, making them a premium source of nutrition and high-quality oil.
Beyond its use as a raw food ingredient, sesame is widely used in sweets, confectionery, and bakery products, and also serves as a key component in soaps, perfumes, vegetable oils, and carbon paper.
