What is Pepcer?
Principal ingredient of Pepcer is licorice; in addition it contains valerian, hyoscyamus and emblica. It is well–researched, clinically trialed and scientifically approved combination of medicinal herbs for the treatment of gastric ulcer. It has been stated “patients taking licorice derivatives have an abnormally thick layer of mucus on their gastric mucosa”.

Peptic ulcer specifically gastric ulcer and pre-ulcer symptoms like epigastric distress or burning relieved by food or antacids, nausea and vomiting after meals.
How does Pepcer work?
Licorice (Principal ingredient of Pepcer) has remarkable antigastric ulcer activity. It inhibits gastric acid secretion and ulcer formation.
How licorice derivative (carbenoxolone) results in strong mucosal defense.
It alters the composition of mucus, increases its quantity and quality.

It there any precaution?
Pepcer should be avoided in patients suffering from hypertension and cardiac diseases. Especially it should not be recommended with digitalis (due to tis glycoside content).
What amount to be taken?
Pepcer should generally be given for 4 to 6 weeks (due to its glycoside content).
Syrup: One to two tablespoonfuls thrice daily for the first week while one teaspoonful thrice daily for the rest of the period. Prolonged treatment for more than three months should be carried under strict medical supervision.
Tablets:
Two to three tablets thrice daily for the first week while one to two tablets thrice daily for the rest of the period.
