Sindhi Block print work
Description
Block prints are a timeless trend and favour the ethos of what we call environment friendly and sustainable fashion. Block printing in the subcontinent originally has its roots in the Indus Valley civilisation, where the famous Sindhi ajrak was also handcrafted and dyed. While the essence of this technique is over 4000 years old, with time the process has evolved and has been brought into commercial production. Block printing is done by engraved wooden blocks. It is the simplest, slowest, and ancient method of printing on fabric. Block printing is done on cotton, lawn, silk, and linen fabric, which are used to make classy dresses. Small or medium hand-designed motifs are hand engraved on the blocks, and the design is composed of a repetitive pattern.
